Applying the EX-series Switch’s original, factory settings

If the current active configuration fails, you can revert to the default factory configuration. You can also rollback to a previous configuration if desired.

The default factory configuration includes the basic settings. This is the first configuration of the switch and it is loaded when the switch is first installed and powered on.

To revert to the default factory configuration, press the Menu button on the front panel of the switch or use the load factory default command.

  • Using the Menu Button to Restore the Default Factory Settings

Note:

If you want to convert an EX 4200 switch from a member of a multimember virtual chassis configuration to a standalone switch, first disconnect the cables connected to the virtual chassis ports (VCPs). See Disconnecting a Virtual Chassis Cable from an EX-series Switch. The Menu button procedure deletes all modified configuration parameters, including virtual chassis parameters such as member ID, mastership priority, and setting of VCP uplinks.

  1. To access the maintenance menu, press the Menu button until the MAINTENANCE MENU appears.
  2. Enter your information by using the Enter key.
  3. Find the FACTORY DEFAULT option in the menu and press it.
  4. Press Enter. The screen currently reads “RESTORE DEFAULT?”
  5. Press Enter. The words “FACTORY DEFAULT IN PROGRESS” display on the screen before the inactive options menu reappears. To learn more about the Idle Menu, check out the EX-series Switch-LCD.

Using the Load Factory Default Command to Restore the Default Factory Settings

The load factory default command is a standard JUNOS configuration command that works in the standard way when entered on an EX 3200 switch or on a standalone EX-4200 switch.

When you enter the configuration command switch-config, it replaces your current active configuration with the default factory configuration. This means that any information that you’ve configured before—including virtual chassis parameters, such as member ID and mastership priority—will be deleted. So make sure everything is set up correctly before issuing this command!

If you try to commit a command after using the load factory default command on a virtual chassis that has two or more members, the command may fail.

This procedure allows you to reset factory defaults on a switch that is included in a multimember virtual chassis. It deletes all configuration parameters other than the virtual chassis parameters, and allows you to commit the configuration.

  1. This CLI mode command will restore the device to its original factory settings:
    user@switch# restore default settings
  2. Enter user@switch# delete system commit factory-settings to enable this default configuration file to function properly.
  3. Save the updated version of the default configuration file by typing user@switch# commit.

To determine whether any uplink VCP settings remain, use the show virtual-chassis vc-port command.

You can remove any remaining virtual chassis parameters.

  • To change the member ID for a virtual chassis, use the request virtual-chassis renumber command.
  • To change the mastership-priority value, edit the mastership-priority field in the database.
  • To delete the uplink VCP setting for a virtual chassis port, use the request virtual-chassis vc-port delete-pic-slot command.

Press the Menu button until you see MAINTENANCE MENU on the panel. Press the Enter button. Press Menu until you see FACTORY DEFAULT. Press Enter.
